Bournemouth Christmas market visitor guide: tips
Bournemouth Christmas market visitor guide for 2026: opening hours, cashless payment, toilets, dogs, rain, accessibility, the quieter times and walking there.
On this page
This Bournemouth Christmas market visitor guide covers the practical side: hours, payment, toilets, dogs, rain, access and how to get there on foot. Christmas in Bournemouth opens on Thursday 12 November 2026 and closes on 3 January 2027, with the market stalls closing on 31 December, the organisers say. For what is on, see our market guide; this one is about getting the visit right.
Where is it?
The market is in Bournemouth Square, postcode BH2 6ED. The Festive Trail and the SKATE ice rink are next to it in the Lower Gardens, which run from the Square towards the pier, so the three parts of the event form one walkable site. The Bournemouth Guide's market listing and Lower Gardens page have more on both.

Opening hours
The organisers give slightly different hours on different pages, so treat these as a guide:
- Market stalls: daily from 11am to 8pm, 7pm on Sundays, according to the market page. The FAQ says 11am to 8pm.
- Food stalls: until 10pm daily.
- Alpine Lodge: 11am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am to midnight on Friday and Saturday on the lodge page; the FAQ says 11am to 11pm daily.
Opening times on 25 and 26 December are not listed, so check before planning around them.

Paying: card only
The market is cashless: card and contactless only. Entry is free and the free areas need no booking. The ticketed extras, ice skating, Glow Golf, Story Time with Santa, the Christmas Tree Maze and booths in the Alpine Lodge, can be booked in advance on the organisers' site. Some sell out; tickets on the day are sold only where availability allows, and a late arrival may lose its slot.
Toilets, dogs and photography
The organisers' FAQ answers the usual questions:
- Toilets, including accessible ones, are on site and nearby.
- Dogs: service dogs and well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in many outdoor areas, not inside some attractions. If you are travelling with one, our Help Centre covers pets in Flexiestays apartments.
- Photography is welcome in many areas.

Rain and cold
This is an outdoor event, and the organisers say the event continues in most weather. A waterproof layer matters more than an umbrella in a crowd. The lodge, the Moguls Bar beside the rink and the food stalls are where people warm up.
Accessibility
Many outdoor areas have accessible routes and mobility aids are welcome in the wider areas, the organisers say. Some attractions have restrictions, so read the page for each experience before you book. Crowds are the main obstacle on busy evenings, which is a reason to pick your time.
When is it quietest?
The organisers do not publish footfall by day, but they do say weekends and school holidays fill fast at the rink, and they claim over 5 million visitors across the season. Our reading: weekday daytimes in November and early December are the calmest, and Friday and Saturday evenings the busiest, with the DJs in the lodge and the extra snowfall times at 2pm, 5pm and 7pm. Weekend days bring the Christmas characters, 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, which suits families more than anyone looking for space.
Getting there on foot
If you are staying in the centre or on the West Cliff, walk. From the West Cliff hotels it is about ten minutes on foot down to the Square. If you must drive, our Help Centre's parking page covers parking at Flexiestays apartments; we would not count on easy parking near the Square on a December weekend.
For a full day plan, see our Christmas itinerary.
Staying for the evening
Most of the market's atmosphere comes after dark, when the trail lights and the lodge are at their busiest. Staying on the West Cliff turns the walk home into ten minutes rather than a drive, and booking direct on Serviced Apartments in Bournemouth - Book Direct is cheaper than the big platforms. Our where to stay guide compares a short break with staying through New Year.
Frequently asked questions
No, the opposite: the organisers say the market is cashless, so stalls take card and contactless payments only. Bring a card or a phone that pays.
The organisers say service dogs and well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in many outdoor areas, but not inside some attractions. Check the page of any ticketed experience before you book with a dog.
Generally not. It is an outdoor event and the organisers say it continues in most weather, so dress for rain and wind rather than expecting a closure.
Yes. The organisers' FAQ says there are toilets on site and nearby, including accessible toilets.
