Nando’s needs little introduction, and the branch at Castlepoint does what every Nando’s does: chicken marinated in PERi-PERi and cooked over an open flame, ordered at the till and carried to your table. What marks this one out is where it sits — out at the Castlepoint retail park, a short drive north of the seafront rather than in the thick of the town centre. If you are staying in Bournemouth without a car, reaching it takes some planning. If you have wheels, the free parking at the door is the whole point.
The food
The menu is the national one, so you already know its shape — a quarter or half chicken, butterfly breasts, thighs, wraps and burgers, each ordered at a chosen heat. PERi-Tamer is barely there; Extra Hot earns its name. The sides carry the meal as much as the chicken does: PERi-salted chips, spicy rice, macho peas, halloumi. There is a proper plant-based line now, so a table split between meat-eaters and vegans is no trouble, and the Nandinos menu keeps younger children fed without fuss. Bottomless soft drinks and the sauce shelf are the small rituals regulars come back for.
The setting
This is a retail-park restaurant and it looks like one — a large, bright room built for turnover rather than a long evening. It works best for exactly that: a quick, reliable meal between other errands. There is an outdoor seating area for warmer days, wheelchair access is step-free throughout, and baby-changing facilities are on site, which makes it an easy call with a pushchair. Come expecting your food fast and hot rather than a hushed, candlelit dinner.
Where it is
Castlepoint is one of the largest retail parks on the south coast, off Castle Lane West on the northern edge of Bournemouth. That puts Nando’s a fair way from the beach — this is not a stroll from the promenade. If you are based down on the coast at Boscombe, it is a short drive inland, and the Harvester at Cooper Dean sits close by should the queue here be long. The free car park is the practical draw; parking near the seafront rarely is.
Good to know
The branch takes collection and delivery orders as well as walk-ins, but does not take dine-in bookings, so at peak times you claim your table by turning up. Free Wi-Fi covers the room.
